Green Beans and a Giveaway CLOSED

Valentine's of 2oo8 was horrible. Let's reminisce  shall we? The night before ended in my friend almost running us off the road. Kids, don't drink and drive. The next morning, I woke up to start my long drive home. I guess I was going a little over the speed limit and wasn't paying that much attention. Trying to find a decent station on XM can be tricky. A state trooper pulled me over, gave me a ticket, and said Happy Valentine's. Thanks, you effin  jerk

When I pulled into my town, I stopped by KFC for, you know, some chicken. The green beans also looked enticing. I ordered and went to the house. As I was getting out of my car, trying to juggle the food, my bags, purse, and phone, I accidentally dropped my phone into the KFC bag. It's fine. It's just chicken. I got inside, put my ish down, and to my complete and utter horror, pulled out my phone from the bottom of the bag. It had been submersed in green bean juice. WHAT tha WHAT?!

My phone was my life. I have never spent 6oo dollars on a phone until that one (and will never spend that much again). I got it the year before, right around the time iPhones were coming out and touch screens were still very new. HTC had just come out with the Cingular 8525. It had the touch screen, a stylist, a pull out keyboard, and I loved it.

Back to the moment of green bean juice KFC rage and fury. I turned the phone off and took the battery out. I wiped the phone and my tears. It felt like I was leaning over a pet that was on it's last breath.Hang in there buddy, please!

My beloved phone never turned on again. My heart was broken. I went back to my lame old Motorola Razor and then eventually got an iPhone. To this day I still have never loved a phone more than that 8525, and to this day I still haven't eaten KFC's green beans.

Here is a stock photo of my "Gianni." Yes, I had named my phone.

Really silly story, but a person's cell phone becomes their life line. I have umpteenthousand pictures of memories stored on my phone. I have numbers I'll never know by heart. I have apps and sites bookmarked that I need on the reg. My phone wakes me up in the morning and puts me to sleep at night. Technology is something crazy.

  1. It was back in 2008 as well when I got had just got a new cell phone the day before. It was my first touch screen and it was a Nokia slider of some sort. I forgot the actual name. I was walking to my car very excited about my phone and as I opened the door to my car my phone drops on the ground into a puddle of water. It worked for about 30 minutes then it turned off. So my step dad said he would go get me one but this would be the only time he would do such thing. So we go up to Cellular South and as soon as I walk in it turns on. It was funny but about a minute later it turned off. It was a horror story at first but it ended happily!

  2. The short and sweet of it advanced to a 'fancy phone" one with 3G they call it had a pay as you go phone well, now my Pantech Crossover is with me for a 2 year contract when all I had to do was go get a $10 minute card.. you live and learn fancy is nice but thrify is better. I created my own horror by letting a sales rep talk me into this and the basic plan was not good at all had to upgrade .. <><

  3. My son is a cell phone terrorist I have gone through 15 Phones with him in 5 years, just some of their deaths included, One, he bite through the screen and shattered it, he took a hammer to one and smashed it to pieces, One he thought (and this one was my fav much like yours it was the first one i spent lots on and named lol) it was dirty, he had pulled his little stoole up to the sink to help "wash dishes" when i reached in to drain the water there it was....covered in bubble and never worked again i cried a lot, then there was the golf tee shooved into the charger port destroying yet another, one snapped in half when he was running away with it and fell geeze sooo soo many phones

  4. My worst phone horror, was in 2003. I was at 1BE(one block) lol.... I had my phone in my back pocket, i went into the bath room to go potty. As i was trying to hoover of the toliet (bc we know how nasty those bathroom were) i heard a splash. I turned around to find something glowing in the toliet. i was horrified! How in the world was i going to get my phone out of that disgusting toliet. Finally i was able to fish it out, with out sticking my hand in. The phone still worked and after all the sanitizing i could possibly do the phone still smelled like pee. Needless to say, i was at cellular south the next morning to get a new phone!

  5. I have so many phone horror stories that it's hard to choose which one. I guess we'll take it back to circa 2006. I had one of those LG flip phones when flip phones were all the rage. I was stopping by my friend's house for a minute, and when I went in, I dropped my phone in the cup holder of my Alero and thought nothing else of it. I came back out 15 minutes later or so and to my horror found my phone sitting in a tiny 3" clear plastic cup of water that I had totally forgotten was even in the cupholder. So not only was it wet, but it had time to really soak it all in. And unfortunately that was just the beginning of my phone luck. Now the OtterBox keeps me in line, but I'm really eyeing one of those LifeProof cases because I just don't trust myself with anything nice!

  6. I love reading everyone's comments. HAHA! Goodness the only horror story I have is that my littlest man likes to EAT on mine. The screen housing is halfway off and the phone works! Then after dropping it a million times (no I'm not a protective casing person since the phone was free - HTC Desire) I dropped it and the screen shatters. I refuse to pay the $$$ to fix it, so as long as it works and I can see it the screen a little, I'm good. ha ha. We are all goobers! I miss my Nokie 5165!

  7. I've had pretty good luck with my phones until I got my new iPhone 4S. I had only owned the phone for three days when my family and I decided to go on a nice trip to the local Botanical Gardens. I was talking on the phone as we drove there and I had just finished the call when we pulled in to our parking spot. As soon as we stopped, I opened the car door and hopped out quickly so I could get my son out of his car seat. Within a second of hopping out, I caught the glare of the sun hit my iPhone as it flew 5 feet in the air, out of my lap and out of reach. It hit the pavement with a sickening plastic thud.

Luckily the glass survived, but not without some major scratches on the metal casing and the back....not a fun moment in my life.
