Bird's Nest Cookies Revisited

It's finally April 1st! But I'm not going to have any April Fool's jokes for you guys. I don't like all that nonsense. Ohandplusalso, this is officially my birthday month! ::fist bumps::

Since I want to go run outside and scream I LOVE APRIL and feel the warm spring sun on my face, I'm stopping in real quick only to share this yummy recipe. I blogged about these bird's nest cookies a few years ago. They are pretty much the perfect treat for both spring and Easter. Hey-oh!

DIY Cake Stand

Stopping in real quick like to share a super easy DIY. Who doesn't love homemade jaunts? This cake stand that I whipped up in, oh, about two minutes tops, makes a gorgeous gift. Need a housewarming present? Look no further.

DIY Cake Stand
|| supplies ||
Large Plate (found mine at the Dollar Tree. Hey-oh)
Bowl (Dollar Tree)
Ceramic Glue (E-6000 is a good one, I just didn't have any on hand)
Twine (optional)
Cookie Mix (optional)

- I probably don't even need to type out instructions. But for those of you non-visual types, just basically put glue around the bottom rim of the bowl.

- Place the plate's bottom on top of the bowl's bottom. Okay. Did I just make that sound really confusing?

- Let dry.

- Wrap the the cake stand with twine (or ribbon, yarn, whateves) and add a bag of cookie mix. Done. It's a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am type of thing.

Now go get to crafting. I also guest-posted this DIY over at Love Joleen Photography a few weeks ago!

Enjoy Every Crumb

A few days ago Adrienne and I made Christmas cookies together. We made the dough, waited while it hardened in the fridge, rolled it out, cut it with our cookie cutters, baked them, and then decorated the delicious smelling treats with her daddy. I try not to take precious moments like these for granted. But sometimes I do.

Like when Adrienne dumped a mound of sprinkles on her plate while we were "panking" the cookies, or when I looked at the icing drizzled floor. Each time I bit my tongue, reminding myself she will only be two for one more week. Just one. more. week.

::sigh::

Time goes by so fast. And you never know what this beautifully scary world we live in has to offer. So, hug your babies, hold them so very tight, and remember to always soak each second in.

Yesterday was one of those eye openers that I'll always remember. One that is making me loose more and more faith in this so called humanity. We live in a world that has more bullying, violence, and killing than love and compassion. And that is so very effed up.

Stop all this hate.

Sending all the positive vibes I can muster to everyone in Newtown, Connecticut, and around the world, who have lost people they love.

Acorn Cookies

Super easy and kid friendly Thanksgiving dessert? I found one. Acorn cookies. Bam. Last year I went a little cray on the Thanksgiving treats as you read in yesterday's post. Those turkeys were time consuming and wouldn't even stay up. Meh. Live and learn.

I made these Acorn cookies for an early Thanksgiving feast we had at my dad's. They were a slam dunk at the dinner. And looked pretty, too! Wins all around. Here are the deets on these little guys. Ready. Go.

Acorn Cookies
|| ingredients ||
1 Bag of Butterscotch Morsels
1 Bag of Hersey's Kisses
1 Box of Mini Vanilla Wafers
1 Tub of Chocolate Frosting

- Unwrap Hershey's Kisses (kid's part). Using the chocolate frosting, glue the bottom of a Hershey's Kiss to the bottom of a mini vanilla wafer. Repeat until the whole bag of Kisses are done. I popped them in the fridge to let the chocolate glue harden.

- After about ten minutes, I took them out of the fridge and chocolate glued the butterscotch morsels to the tops of the wafers. Refrigerate until the chocolate is hardened again. And done.

Lucky Rabbit Cookies

After I came home from dealing with an extremely crowded grocery store, I found these amazingly beautiful cookies at my door, c/o Sullivan Bakehouse. I immediately opened the bow-wrapped box. Little bunny rabbit sugar cookies peeked out from the tissue. The smell was ridiculously pungent. Like they had shipped the whole bakery. I would have been perfectly fine if they did. I'd have an endless supply. These cookies were decadent, and melted in my mouthparts. They were quickly devoured, my tummy was oh so happy, and that's the end of my story.

Sullivan Bakehouse has many other treats to choose from. Like these adorbs little peanut guys.

Birds of A Feather

Apparently, everyone and their mom's have had these amazingly easy and delish bird's nest cookies. I, for one, haven't. I haven't even been to Disney World. I mean, my parents even strapped on my roller skates and put me in front of the second floor staircase when I was seven. Let the chips fall where they may kind of thing. Okay. I made that part up, but that's how I picture things. I was deprived.

Anyiwanttogotothemagickingdom, I've never made these little guys, but it's now my new Easter tradition. No baking, three ingredients, and yumholas. My kind of recipe.

Bird's Nest Cookies
Adapted from Art of Dessert
Ingredients:
12 oz. pkg Chow Mein Noodles
12 oz. pkg Butterscotch Morsels (recommend Hersey's over Toll House)
90 Egg-Shaped Candies
2-4 boxes of Peeps (optional)
1 tube of white Icing (optional)

- Line a counter or baking sheet with wax paper. Microwave butterscotch morsels for 30 seconds and stir. Repeat the process until melted.

- Pour the chow mein noodles into a big bowl. Pour the melted butterscotch over the noodles. I used my hands to mix. Use a 1/4 measuring cup to portion out the mixture onto the waxed paper. They will be mounds, so push the middles in to make the shape of a nest.

- Place the egg-shaped candies in the centers of the nests. I used some white icing on the bottoms of the candy eggs to attach them better to the cookies. Let them dry for about an hour. Or until they harden. Once they have dried, and you are displaying them, put a Peep on the side of the nest. Attach with a bit of icing. (I haven't taken a picture with those. I will add some soon.)
