Mud Pie Giveaway + Contest

A few weeks ago, Mud Pie contacted me asking if I'd like to participate in a blogger contest. Having always loved this brand I was super excited. They offer some of the prettiest baby and toddler outfits imaginable. As soon as I knew I was having a little girl, I ordered a Mud Pie tutu. Every newborn baby girl needs a tutu. Right? Right.

Anyways, Mud Pie sent me three of the most adorable Christmas outfits ever for Adrienne. All of which are full of ruffles and tulle. Both things are crucial in a little girl's life. I stuffed my child in this I Love Santa outfit and put her to work being a pint sized model. Trying to get her to cooperate is a job in itself. After telling her I was going to fire her and she wasn't getting her payment of candy, I ended the session with tons of pictures of her pouting. Natch.

So, here is the deal. I need your help in voting for little Adrienne in this Mud Pie contest. I've even teamed up with Mud Pie to offer my own contest so you can win that adorbs I Love Santa outfit for your toddler princess. Just log into the Rafflecopter below (or make a new Rafflecopter account), and follow the directions for each entry.

Please make sure to actually do what's required for each entry. If you just click enter and not do what it's asking, I'll know. If you are unsure how to do one, skip it and contact me. DON'T CHEAT.

Remember, you can go vote for Adrienne without entering my contest. Just go HERE to vote by LIKING her picture!

The giveaway ends Friday, November 30th, 2012. One winner will receive the I Love Santa playset (worth $56) from Mud Pie.

A big thanks to Mud Pie for making such beautiful things. And a big thanks to you guys for voting for my beautiful child who has major swag.

DIY: Christmas Tree Skirt

Dropping in to share a post I made last winter. I couldn't find a Christmas tree skirt that I liked enough to buy, so I just whipped one up myself. I can't wait to get all the Christmas decs out, blast the holiday tunes, and drink hot chocolate until we are sugar drunk. Ugh. Waiting isn't my forte. Go HERE to check out the deets on making your own tree skirt.

And a big shout out to my beautiful frand, Em, for doing it big and giving birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl yesterday! It's all happening!

DIY Gifts: Words of Wisdom Canvas

I made this canvas for Adrienne's room a few weeks ago. I really love personalized artwork. And this is super easy to make. It can be made with lyrics from a song, quotes from your favorite book, or just names of your loved ones. Easy to customize. Plus, you can't really mess up. Unless you spell a word wrong. Which, believe me, it happens.

DIY Words of Wisdom Canvas

Canvas
Paper
Scissors
Paint/Brush

- The gist of this is pretty simple. Pick a saying that means a lot to you, free hand the letters onto paper (or print out letters), cut them out, and lay out on the canvas.

- This was the tricky part for me. I held the letters down while I painted over them with pink acrylic paint. It was super tedious, trying not to get paint under the letters. I'm pretty sure they have some sort of spray adhesive that would work better. Googled it: Martha Stewart Stencil Adhesive Spray. Bam.

- After I painted the whole thing pink, you could stop there and pull the letters up before the canvas is dry. Or go the route I went down and splatter paint the ish outta it. Then pull the letters up before it dries. And voila. Handmade work of art. It would be a super cool gift.

Waris Dirie and ViX Giveaway

Last week, ViX swimwear contacted me about sharing an amazing story. I don't know about you guys, but when I saw an email from ViX swimwear I pretty much freaked my freak. I've always been a fan of their swimsuits. They are super classy with just the right amount of sexy.

When I started reading this email, my heart began to sink. Waris Dirie was brought to my attention. I know who the beautiful Somalian model is, but I didn't know her history. At the height of her modeling career in 1997, she told a horrible story about the female genital mutilation (FGM) she endured as a small child. The very next year, she published her first book called Desert Flower, which tells the story of the supermodel who went from drifting around the Somali desert to working with the world's top designers and walking the hottest runways. A movie about her life came out a few years ago with the same name. Waris Dirie has also won many awards and worked to end FGM, something that sickeningly affects 140 million females worldwide.

Moved by Waris Dirie's story, ViX designer Paula Hermanny curated a beautiful line of African-inspired resort-wear that will be featured on their website this month through December. And for every piece of this collection sold, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Waris Dirie's Desert Flower Foundation. Very cool.

I don't know anything about FGM, but I can imagine. Having an almost three year old daughter scares the living ish out of me. I never let this kid out of my sight. I grew up knowing that actual monsters do exist. My mother used to work in the state prison as a criminal psychologist. It was ingrained into my brain that there are some pretty horrible humans walking around. My mom was overprotective and taught me at an early age about the dangers of the world. Especially about the men who prey on kids. I'd kill anyone who messed with my child. Without a second thought.

Anystartingtogetreallyangryatmen, ViX is giving you readers a chance to win an item from their "Desert Flower" collection. There will be nine winners in all, and you can enter as many times as you want!

Go HERE to enter the contest on their Facebook page. Share this empowering story of achieving your dreams no matter what life throws at you. Women need to help women. And mos def bring an end to FGM. The contest ends on November 20th, 2012.

Thank you ViX for bringing this story to my attention. And thank you to Waris Dirie for being such a strong and beautiful woman, who wasn't scared to share her story.
