Burlap Bunny

Since Easter is right around the corner, I thought I would share the burlap bunny door hanger I made last week. It was super easy to whip up and cost me nothing since I already had all the supplies!

Burlap Bunny Door Hanger
|| supplies needed ||
- Burlap (about 1 yard)
- Paint (white, pink, and black)
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun
- Plastic Grocery Bags
- Tan Twine
- Tulle or Ribbon for Bow
- Florist Wire

- Cut out the shape of a bunny (or a flower or whatever you want your door hanger to be) from the burlap. Lay the bunny shape on the remaining burlap and cut out another shape for the bunny's back.

- Paint the whole front bunny shape white. Let dry. Paint pink on the insides of the ears. I used black puffy paint for his eyes and mouth, but regular black paint would work just fine. Let dry.

- Cut out a little nose from the burlap scraps. Paint it pink (don't glue it on to the bunny yet, even though my photos above show it already on there). Paint little pink cheeks on the bunny. Let dry. Hot glue the ends of twine to where the nose would be above the mouth. Glue the burlap nose on top of the twine.

- Start hot-gluing around the edges of the front and back pieces of the bunny. Go all around the ears and both sides of the head. I stopped when I had just enough of a pocket to start stuffing grocery store bags in it. Stuff a ton of bags in the bunny's ears and head, or until desired fullness. Hot-glue the bottom of the head all the way up.

- I used florist wire to make a hook on the back of the bunny to hang. I also made a big bow out of Tulle for the bow. And finished.

These burlap door hangers are pretty expensive around my town. A smaller one goes for about $40 or so. Yowza. I'm pretty proud of my free bunny, ohandplusalso my crafting skills.

Please disregard my dead ferns. I promise I just bought new ones after I took these photos. I don't have the best timing. Or green thumbs for that matter.

Snow Day and Tree of Love Revisited

This morning it snowed. It hasn't snowed once in the past four winters. So, naturally we dressed as warm as we could and acted like straight hooligans in our backyard.

One day Adrienne's parents will grow up. But I could totally be wrong.

I took the photo above with muh phone and grammed it. If you don't follow me on IG, do so now over @coffeeandcashmerelove. I also have plenty of real camera photos from our snow day to share soon!

Oh, and here is this oldie but goodie Valentine's craft, our Tree of Love.

DIY Webbies Revisited

When I get sick, I get sick. I've had a terrible cold for a whole week now. I just can't shake it. I was starting to feel better, and then yesterday I came down with a hacking cough. You know the kind that puts you on the verge of hugging the toilet? THAT kind. I'm literally coughing up both lungs and probably have bronchitis. I mean, I'm no doctor, but I have put on many a band-aids. So, same/same.

So, before I drown myself in Nyquil, I decided to re-share my DIY spiderwebs from last year's Halloween. These guys are super easy and very fun for the kiddos. I promise after this move and my life calms down, I'll be back in full force with new crafts. Pinkie prom.

Peg People

A few days ago, while we were out shopping, I was trying to think of fun crafts to do with Adrienne. I moseyed down the craft-aisle and saw a package of wooden pegs. I figured those little guys would be fun to paint and add to her dollhouse.

We first tried regular paints, but paint-pens ended up being the easiest. I painted us, and she painted two little girls named Sally and Hallie, who were both faceless. I asked if she needed any help and she quickly responded with "I'm de artist. Dey don't have to have faces." TOLD.

The little peg people turned out super cute, and we played with them for about five minutes until she lost interest. Natch.

You win some and you obviously loose some.

DIY Gifts: Words of Wisdom Canvas

I made this canvas for Adrienne's room a few weeks ago. I really love personalized artwork. And this is super easy to make. It can be made with lyrics from a song, quotes from your favorite book, or just names of your loved ones. Easy to customize. Plus, you can't really mess up. Unless you spell a word wrong. Which, believe me, it happens.

DIY Words of Wisdom Canvas

Canvas
Paper
Scissors
Paint/Brush

- The gist of this is pretty simple. Pick a saying that means a lot to you, free hand the letters onto paper (or print out letters), cut them out, and lay out on the canvas.

- This was the tricky part for me. I held the letters down while I painted over them with pink acrylic paint. It was super tedious, trying not to get paint under the letters. I'm pretty sure they have some sort of spray adhesive that would work better. Googled it: Martha Stewart Stencil Adhesive Spray. Bam.

- After I painted the whole thing pink, you could stop there and pull the letters up before the canvas is dry. Or go the route I went down and splatter paint the ish outta it. Then pull the letters up before it dries. And voila. Handmade work of art. It would be a super cool gift.

DIY Lace Crown

Since Halloween has basically snuck up on me, I thought I'd share a super easy crown to make for your little Royal. This gem is the perfect finishing touch to any fairy, ballerina, or princess costume. Or even just to play dress up. It's also perfect to use for a birthday crown. You know how I like the simple, but gorgeous DIY's, and this is mos def one of 'em.

DIY LACE CROWN
|| supplies ||
Lace (13-15")
Mod Podge
Paint (any color for the crown)
Wax Paper
Glue Gun or Super Glue
Glitter (optional)

I luckily have a huge box of lace and ribbon (thanks Mom) and picked this pattern out. I love the pointed ends. It's perfect crown material. After cutting your lace to the desired size (I made a small circumference one), lay flat on wax paper.

Start painting your lace. I used a grey paint on one crown and a gold on another. Paint one side, then when dry, flip over and paint the other side. To speed up this process, I used a hair dryer. I did two coats of paint on each side.

After you are done painting, lay the lace on a new sheet of wax paper. The lace should already be getting thicker and more sturdy.

Cover one side of the crown with mod podge. Let dry (with a hair dryer) and flip over to cover the back side. Let that side dry. Repeat the process about three more times.

After the last coat of mod podge, I sprinkled a generous amount of fine glitter before I dried it for the final time.

Let the crown dry, and glue the ends together. Let sit for about 24 hours to achieve the maximum stiffness. And you are done.

Use bobby pins to pin to your little princess's head. Easy peasy. Now trying to get her to pose for a picture? That's the hard part.

I got this idea from Dear Lillie. You can find her post HERE.

Check out my newest giveaway going on right now to win a chunky scarf from Head Candy. Go HERE to enter. It ends Monday, October 29, 2012. Good luck!!

Crayons and Zombies

Today is one of those mornings where I wake up and there's coffee all over the counter from the coffee pot.

::blank stare::

I guess I didn't push in the pot far enough, so it dripped a whole day's worth of black goodness all over the place.

Today is one of those mornings where I just want to tell Adrienne to get up off me. No seriously. Get up off me. For five minutes. Okay. Three. Just, please, three full minutes.

It's also one of those mornings where I can't get this creepy dream I had last night out of my head. I was preggers. With another baby girl. BY A ZOMBIE. I know. Is that possible?! I got myself out of that dream (nightmare?) before I knew all the deets. Watching The Walking Dead before bed got me.

And this morning/today is one where I have so much cleaning to do and I'm just sitting on my arse. Blogging. I've also put together every last single food combo I possibly could to make a meal for the past week. I need to go grocery shopping. I need to go grocery shopping. I have to get mentally prepared. And lunch? I have no idea.

Anymypointbeingthismorningiswack, a few weeks ago Adrienne and I melted down her broken crayon bits into big circle shaped crayons. And if you want the know how, well, here we go.

Start by taking all the paper off the crayons (I gave that part to Adrienne), and break the pieces into smaller pieces.

Preheat the oven to 275 degrees. I have one of those rubbery muffin tins, so I sprayed that with veggie spray, and we put all the different shades of greens into one spot, all the yellows into another, and so on. You could also mix the colors up if you're adventurous.

Put in the oven for about six minutes. Start checking after that. It may take a few more minutes to melt all the way down. Let me warn you, these crayons stink the oven and kitchen up. I don't know if it was because they were cheap crayons or what. But it was terrible.

Once all the way melted, take out of the oven. You can stir the melted crayons with a toothpick for a swirly look or just leave layered. Let cool completely before popping them out. And there you go. Big circle crayons for mos def NOT staying in any kind of coloring book lines. Scribbling the mess out of a blank sheet of paper? These guys have you covered.

I also wanted to show off my  Good  Greatwill find. I didn't take a before pic, but this wooden box was bright red with an old country and western scene painted on, with a price tag of one dollar. HEY-OH. I really hated to see all the hard work that was put into painting it, even the words, "Bless this country town," being painted over, but I had to. So, I slapped on a coat of cream paint and sanded the edges. I then mixed some brown acrylic paint with water. I brushed a coat of that on each side, and wiped it off with a paper towel. Just to give it that shabby chic look.

No more plastic eyesore of a crayon box on the coffee table. Now, a perfect new crayon holder.

That's it for me today. Have a good weekend guys.

ps- Sorry for some of the photos up there that look like ish. My camera and the lighting in my house just aren't on my side all the time.

pss- Don't forget about the contest I'm hosting right now! Go HERE to enter to win a gorgeous sterling silver necklace with an engraved mantra from I AM MARYANN. The giveaway ends Monday, October 22nd, 2o12.
