Burlap Bunny

Since Easter is right around the corner, I thought I would share the burlap bunny door hanger I made last week. It was super easy to whip up and cost me nothing since I already had all the supplies!

Burlap Bunny Door Hanger
|| supplies needed ||
- Burlap (about 1 yard)
- Paint (white, pink, and black)
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun
- Plastic Grocery Bags
- Tan Twine
- Tulle or Ribbon for Bow
- Florist Wire

- Cut out the shape of a bunny (or a flower or whatever you want your door hanger to be) from the burlap. Lay the bunny shape on the remaining burlap and cut out another shape for the bunny's back.

- Paint the whole front bunny shape white. Let dry. Paint pink on the insides of the ears. I used black puffy paint for his eyes and mouth, but regular black paint would work just fine. Let dry.

- Cut out a little nose from the burlap scraps. Paint it pink (don't glue it on to the bunny yet, even though my photos above show it already on there). Paint little pink cheeks on the bunny. Let dry. Hot glue the ends of twine to where the nose would be above the mouth. Glue the burlap nose on top of the twine.

- Start hot-gluing around the edges of the front and back pieces of the bunny. Go all around the ears and both sides of the head. I stopped when I had just enough of a pocket to start stuffing grocery store bags in it. Stuff a ton of bags in the bunny's ears and head, or until desired fullness. Hot-glue the bottom of the head all the way up.

- I used florist wire to make a hook on the back of the bunny to hang. I also made a big bow out of Tulle for the bow. And finished.

These burlap door hangers are pretty expensive around my town. A smaller one goes for about $40 or so. Yowza. I'm pretty proud of my free bunny, ohandplusalso my crafting skills.

Please disregard my dead ferns. I promise I just bought new ones after I took these photos. I don't have the best timing. Or green thumbs for that matter.

Crayons and Zombies

Today is one of those mornings where I wake up and there's coffee all over the counter from the coffee pot.

::blank stare::

I guess I didn't push in the pot far enough, so it dripped a whole day's worth of black goodness all over the place.

Today is one of those mornings where I just want to tell Adrienne to get up off me. No seriously. Get up off me. For five minutes. Okay. Three. Just, please, three full minutes.

It's also one of those mornings where I can't get this creepy dream I had last night out of my head. I was preggers. With another baby girl. BY A ZOMBIE. I know. Is that possible?! I got myself out of that dream (nightmare?) before I knew all the deets. Watching The Walking Dead before bed got me.

And this morning/today is one where I have so much cleaning to do and I'm just sitting on my arse. Blogging. I've also put together every last single food combo I possibly could to make a meal for the past week. I need to go grocery shopping. I need to go grocery shopping. I have to get mentally prepared. And lunch? I have no idea.

Anymypointbeingthismorningiswack, a few weeks ago Adrienne and I melted down her broken crayon bits into big circle shaped crayons. And if you want the know how, well, here we go.

Start by taking all the paper off the crayons (I gave that part to Adrienne), and break the pieces into smaller pieces.

Preheat the oven to 275 degrees. I have one of those rubbery muffin tins, so I sprayed that with veggie spray, and we put all the different shades of greens into one spot, all the yellows into another, and so on. You could also mix the colors up if you're adventurous.

Put in the oven for about six minutes. Start checking after that. It may take a few more minutes to melt all the way down. Let me warn you, these crayons stink the oven and kitchen up. I don't know if it was because they were cheap crayons or what. But it was terrible.

Once all the way melted, take out of the oven. You can stir the melted crayons with a toothpick for a swirly look or just leave layered. Let cool completely before popping them out. And there you go. Big circle crayons for mos def NOT staying in any kind of coloring book lines. Scribbling the mess out of a blank sheet of paper? These guys have you covered.

I also wanted to show off my  Good  Greatwill find. I didn't take a before pic, but this wooden box was bright red with an old country and western scene painted on, with a price tag of one dollar. HEY-OH. I really hated to see all the hard work that was put into painting it, even the words, "Bless this country town," being painted over, but I had to. So, I slapped on a coat of cream paint and sanded the edges. I then mixed some brown acrylic paint with water. I brushed a coat of that on each side, and wiped it off with a paper towel. Just to give it that shabby chic look.

No more plastic eyesore of a crayon box on the coffee table. Now, a perfect new crayon holder.

That's it for me today. Have a good weekend guys.

ps- Sorry for some of the photos up there that look like ish. My camera and the lighting in my house just aren't on my side all the time.

pss- Don't forget about the contest I'm hosting right now! Go HERE to enter to win a gorgeous sterling silver necklace with an engraved mantra from I AM MARYANN. The giveaway ends Monday, October 22nd, 2o12.

You Art Up My Life

Yesterday was amazing. I took the day off from my computer and just hung out with the kiddo. We both needed it. The weather was nice, so we even got to play outside. After playing around in the dirt, we came in and did some painting. While my tiny artist went to town on scrap sheets of paper, I had two old wooden picture frames that where in dyer need of sprucing up. The big guy didn't have glass inside of it so I just added a little clip on a nail so I can change out Adrienne's masterpieces when she creates something new. I don't know what I'm going to put in the blue frame. I sorta like the artsy look with nothing in it.

Here is a watercolor I painted when I was younger. It looks super amateur and doesn't show off my true artistic skills. But, my mom liked it enough to frame the thing, and I love it because of her.

When I was cleaning out my old room at my mom's, I came across my huge container of old nail polishes. Being the hoarder that I am, I just couldn't bare to throw them out. So, I splattered away. If you do something like this, do it outside. The fumes are something serious.

Below is a painting of William and his band that was painted live at during their music set at Wakarusa circa 2010. My music man is the one in the top left corner on the keys. The artist is Odenedo, and his stuff is pretty legit.

I feel like my camera just doesn't do any of these pieces of art justice. This city skyline is by J. Allen

A friend of ours did this picture of William's hands by exposing a negative and doing some other jazz to it that I can't remember. The black silhouette of my little fashion queen is by Tim "The Silhouette Man" Arnold. You can read my post about it here.

These two works of art are from my child. The one with the green mat is her first ever drawing. The second was done shortly after. The face in it is amazing. Picasso-esque, if you ask me.

And last, but not least, I melted some crayons through a hot glue gun onto a canvas. Super fun project. Not for the youngins. You can see how I did this here.

Learning Surcease Disorder

I made that up. I don't even know what it means. I do know that I'm taking the night off. I am too involved in trying to learn Corel Paintshop Pro X2. Can this thing be any harder to learn? I need to sign up for classes just to figure out how to use the crop tool for this ish.

I'm not computer illiterate. I knows my stuffs. I've even had many a photo editing software in my day. But, I've yet to make the leap over to the big dogs. Til now.

I chose this over Photoshop. Paintshop even claimed it was more user friendly. Yea. O.Kay. I'm in a bad photo editing acid trip and can't figure out how to make anything work. Will it ever be over?! One may never know.

Idealistic Coloring

I have always said that I like to walk through airport tunnels dreamy-eyed, so that the lights change to magical arrays of colors, while strange, hypnotic music is playing as my soundtrack. I make everything a disco. But, that's just me, and, well, I'm a visionary.
